  Little Slade looked up at me, his eyes a deep dark blue. They were so dark they looked black.

  “Hemorrhaging… put it in the iv…. We need to stop the bleeding.”

  I could only catch parts of what they were saying, but what I heard had my heart stopping. I couldn’t lose her. I wanted a house full of little Lucy’s.

  My legs gave out, and[RP446] I sat down as gently as I could in the chair. I was in the corner of the room watching as they huddled around Lucy.

  “Bleeding is slowing…. Keep surgical on notice… no she seems to be fighting to stay with us….”

  My heart stopped. As the monitor beeps slowed.

  “Heart rate dropping.”

  “Don’t leave me Mouse.”

  It all happened so quick. One moment the monitor had a beeping sound one beep for each beat of her heart and the next a loud noise.

  “Sir, why don’t you go out in the hallway and let them work.”

  “I’m not fucking leaving her.”

  “Bleeding is under control… heart rate picking up… she’s a fighter…”

  Another hour of them hovering over her, but Lucy just slept. Not once opening her eyes.

  “It’s okay, she seems to be stable. We’ll keep watching her.”

  The doctor was still talking, but I tuned her out when she said she was okay. I just stared at Lucy. I wanted to be close to her.

  I wanted to crawl into that bed with my son and hold them both close. When the room finally emptied I made my way over to the bed.

  “Don’t you ever do that to me again. I promised you I wouldn’t let anyone hurt you and that included you.”

  A small smile twitched at her lips and relief had me sagging slightly.

  “Our son can’t wait to meet his mama, so you get some rest and keep your ass here.”

  I sat down, and cradle[RP450]d our son to my chest, and watch[RP451]ed Lucy rest.

  “I love you Hyde.”

  “I love you too, Darlin.”

  As soon as she said the words she was once again asleep.

  “You can have them for now little buddy, but remember those babies are mine.”

  Slate grunted, and Lucy laughed. He was definitely my son. Kissing her lips, I whisper the words I will never get tired of saying.

  BBQ Chicken Quesadillas

  Tortilla shells

  Grill chicken when almost done baste with BBQ sauce.

  Grill the pineapple. Slice finished chicken. Butter tortilla on one side of both shells. Put one of the shells butter

  side down in a skillet and sprinkle non-buttered side with cheese. Add chicken add a drizzle of BBQ sauce.

  Sprinkle with a little more cheese. Place the other tortilla shell butter side up on top. Cook until cheese is melted and both shells is golden
